While following the instructions to set up an ad hoc network to use with Kapture Pad and Griid tonight I realized that there is an easier and more powerful way to do this on a Mac. Just select the AirPort signal icon in your menu bar at the top right of your desktop and select “Create Network…”, choose a name, a channel and a password (if you want) and you are done.

I found this to be a more convenient way to set up my ad hoc network and by doing it this way I got control over the channel that my network used, which I discovered is important for my iPad 2 WiFi + 3G. Apparently they don’t allow you to set up ad hoc networks using channels 11 or higher.
